Delivery Receipts Definition

Definition of a delivery receipt (DLR)

A Delivery Receipt provides essential insight into the status of your messages. Carriers generate this information once an SMS has been successfully delivered to the recipient’s handset.

Note: The availability of delivery receipts depends on whether the destination network supports them. For this reason, CLiX cannot guarantee delivery receipt availability for all destinations.

For additional details on SMS delivery receipts, please refer to What does my message status mean?

See the links below for instructions on enabling delivery receipts and where they can be received:

  • Receive delivery reports via SMPP
  • Receive delivery receipts via a Hosted URL
  • Receive delivery receipts via Email

After you compose and send your SMS, it is routed to a short message service center (SMSC), which manages delivery to the destination handset. When CLiX submits the message to the SMSC, a delivery receipt is requested for that message.

If the message is successfully delivered to the recipient’s handset, CLiX will receive a delivery receipt confirming delivery. If delivery is not immediately successful, the SMSC will temporarily store the message and continue attempting delivery for the maximum allowable period.

If all delivery attempts fail, the SMSC will issue a delivery receipt to CLiX indicating that the message could not be delivered.
